Yin vs. Yang Features

We have looked at the Origins and Evolution of the Image Archetypes, the Image Archetype Families as well as the Image Archetype Map. Throughout his book Metamorphosis, David Kibbe refers to Yin and Yang features that we are born with and he studies them in great detail in human bodies and faces in order to determine person's Body Type and subsequently the most flattering approach to dressing that body. In what context will this particular body, this particular face, this particular combination or Yin and Yang features in bones, flesh and lines come across as absolutely stunning and what should be avoided, i.e. what clothes minimise the overall aesthetic harmony? In my opinion, the Yin and Yang approach to image consulting is where science meets aesthetics; an approach where mathematics and geometry are utilised in service of aesthetic harmony.

What are the Yin and Yang features? The Table below illustrates some of the difference between the Yin and Yang features (in a very simplified way). As you might remember from the Image Archetypes Families blog post, most of the Image Archetypes are a unique combination of Yin and Yang features. Only two Image Archetypes are pure Yin and Yang extremes: the Romantic (pure Yin) and Dramatic (pure Yang) Image Archetype.

How about your face and body? Were you born with more Yin or Yang features?
